Rock Music Is Still Alive

They remind me of the post- punk era in the ’80s. Remember when songs seemed to get inside your head that you cannot help but move around to the beat only you can hear? That is what you get out of Habits.

Climbing Neon Trees

"I think it was a place we didn't expect we'd come so soon," says Glenn, "Our album had only been out for two years in America, and even less internationally, so it came as a nice surprise actually."

Which brings a twist – Habits is approaching double platinum status, Neon Trees proving a rare exception in the recent record industry slump. But Glenn is quick to acknowledge that the band's future success lies not in the recorded format, but the festival.

Neon Trees Interview with Brian Douglas

The New Rocker - With Not Much Hair

But this might be too good an opportunity to miss. Although I knew nothing of the band, I figured they must be good to be invited all the way from Utah to Singapore for a paid concert in the park. I googled "Neon Trees", watched a YouTube of its performance and decided to garner the energy.

I did not regret one bit...

The Lady Plays A Mean Drum

Elaine Bradley is pretty. And very much a lady.

Her impeccable good looks, in fact, remind me of the late Lady Diana, Princess of Wales.

Neon Trees to open for Duran Duran on fall tour

I don't know what I am more excited about this morning--the fact that Duran Duran is doing a fall tour through the U.S. or that Neon Trees is opening for them.

When the Neon Lights Go Down…

They got everyone going “Oh oh I want some more” and judging by their sold-out concert in Singapore last Tuesday, everyone can’t get enough of Neon Trees, the alternative rock band from Utah.

The quartet that once opened for bands like The Killers, My Chemical Romance and Angels & Airwaves, charmed the reporters present at Somerset Liang Court with their amiable personalities.

Made up of lead vocalist Tyler Glenn, guitarist Chris Allen, bass player Branden Campbell and drummer Elaine Bradley, the band produces a sound that reminds one of love lost and adolescent angst done in a refreshing yet slick synthetic pop-rock fashion, with lyrics that were sincere and heartfelt.

Surrender to Neon Trees

There is something about alternative rock band Neon Trees that one can't help but like.

First there is the name, Neon Trees. Evocative of shiny, glowing trinkets of the natural kind, it begs to be noticed. Then there is their music, a blend of adolescent angst, longing, love lost and found that has created several rock anthems of this generation. Being face to face with two of the members of the band, one is inclined to feel a sense of curiosity and admiration for their music.

Neon Trees at Manning Bar Aug 3

“There were three girls in particular but Animal has a lot more of the shakier lyrics, it was one of the relationships that impacted me the most and has the most personal lyrics.”
No matter how deep or dark the habits were, Glenn wasn’t afraid to share them with the world.
And it paid off for the band, with Animals reaching ARIA gold-selling status when it was released last year.

Neon Trees talk ‘Habits’, Diet Coke and breaking rules

The day after their energetic performance at the 2011 MTV World Stage in Malaysia, we caught up with Neon Trees and were pleasantly surprised to see how much fun they had in them, even after a massively rocking night on stage.

Speaking exclusively to Tyler Glenn (vocals), Chris Allen (guitar), Branden Campbell (bass) and Elaine Bradley (drums), we found out what they almost named the band, the cool police escort they had to MTV World Stage and their habits.

Why Neon Trees' singer loves Glee

Growing up, Neon Trees frontman Tyler Glenn had what you might call a "Billy Elliot complex".

Glenn, 28, loved performing as a child, and began taking dance lessons at the age of four.

But, like the fictional Elliot, his hobby made him the subject of bullying in school. It got so bad that he abandoned his passion at age 12.

Neon Trees Unleash Their Inner 'Animal' at Spinner HQ

For a band with this much chemistry among members, it's surprising that their official lineup is relatively young. Frontman Tyler Glenn and guitarist Chris Allen met in Southern California after their fathers realized they both had similar aspirations (or lack thereof). "We were both just kind of deadbeats," Glenn told Spinner. "[Our dads] were like, 'Our sons should meet. We could put the deadbeats together!'"

MUSIC: Video Dose: Neon Trees, "Animal"

Though I don’t exactly remember the first time I saw Neon Trees, I’ll never forget how I felt. It was a few years ago when Provo seemed to have more rock bands, but I still hadn’t seen anything quite like the them (with the important exception of Midwives Crisis, who were also amazing). Though I’m typically too shy to be much more than a wallflower at concerts, Neon Trees made me want to dance. A lot. In fact, the impulse wasn’t so much a desire as it was a need. It was spectacle on the rocks, and I was completely intoxicated.

Neon Trees tasting success -- but not pizza

Hummus and batteries.
Those are the only requests on Neon Trees' tour rider on its first large-scale national tour.
The Provo-based band had thought about adding a cheese pizza to its list of backstage requests, but demurred.
