[Audio Perv:] Review of Summer Stage, Central Park in NYC

Neon Trees were the direct support band at the Central Park show, playing a catchy 40 minute set. Singer Tyler Glenn is a wondrous frontman with near limitless energy and charisma (apparently lacking only a belt for his pants), and it definitely showed last night. The crowd was curious, most likely due to the enormous success of single “Animal”, but definitely went away highly impressed. The band played an impressive cover of Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” after announcing that there were many PYT’s in the audience.

Neon Trees @ Prince Bandroom

On Thursday 4th of August Neon Trees took to the stage in front of their fan base predominantly consisting of young, somewhat attractive females and conversely seedy, pathetic guys who were trying to pick up these females. But enough about the audience, because we’re here to review the performance of this lively band from Utah.

Neon Trees ‘LIVE’ in Singapore

But, to put it in a few words, it seems Tyler takes his showmanship very seriously, thank you very much. The passionate rocker is a wild thing let loose once the music comes on.
One should have gotten an inkling of the crazy times to come when he swaggered up onstage in his black, shiny rocker vest and funky red shades. It was just his way of making an entrance as the band started the show with current single, Your Surrender.

Neon Trees Wows Crowd at California State Fair

Tyler Glenn, lead singer of Neon Trees, bounded across stage with his red motorcycle jacket flashing in the evening sun with the first notes of “Your Surrender” playing seductively in the audiences ears.

Up went his leg in a kick and up to their feet went the crowd, shouting and waving their hands in the air.

LIVE REVIEW: Neon Trees @ Pacific Ampitheater, OC Fair

Picture it: Eastern Conference Champions just killed their set, the audience is psyched, and the excitement can almost be seen in the air in anticipation for Neon Trees to take the stage. A short 20-minutes later, an old-school sound byte from a scary movie is heard. The crowd is instantly on their feet, hands in the air, endless streams of “woooot” coming out of their mouths. The band takes the stage two at a time until, wait for it… frontman, Tyler Glenn dramatically struts out rockin’ the Michael Jackson red zipper jacket and his moves. The by-now salivating, screaming crowd goes wild and thus the show begins.

Neon Trees prove their pop appeal

Neon Trees has all the makings of a hit band — edgy hair all around, cool girl drummer, inscrutable-at-first-glance band name. But the biggest thing the they’ve got going for them is highly addicting alt-rock, tailor-made for the charts and blasting full-volume in your car.

Summerfest 2011: Side Stage Snapshots

The strong winds whipping off the lake wreaked havoc on the sound during Neon Trees' set at the U.S. Cellular Connection Stage on Thursday night, creating uneven volume and carrying over music from nearby stages.

But that didn't dampen the energy of the Provo, Utah-based quartet and its frenetic frontman, Tyler Glenn. Dressed in a shiny gold and silver jacket and sporting a striking black mohawk, he danced and twirled across the stage as he traded vocals on "Girls and Boys in School" with drummer Elaine Bradley.

The band is touring with an extra guitarist this summer, and the group's poppy synthesized rock got the crowd on the bleachers moving as Glenn bent over his keyboard and belted out the impassioned chorus of "Calling My Name."

Neon Trees rock the San Diego County Fair

If there was a roof over the Heineken Grandstand stage at the San Diego County Fair, the Neon Trees would have blown it off.

Starting the show with an obvious fan favorite, “Sins Of My Youth,” lead singer Tyler Glenn got everyone chanting the lyric, “I’ve got these habits that I cannot break.” The set list only got better, escalating from “Love and Affection” to the band’s first hit single, “Animal.”

A Dozen Awesome Shows At This Year’s KROQ Weenie Roast

Last on the Bud Light Side Stage was a KROQ favorite, Neon Trees. Decked out in their usual ’80s looking garb, lead singer Tyler Glenn was clad in a tight yellow leather jacket, black fingerless gloves with a purple stripe, and some awesome creepers which came off halfway during the show because, as Glenn tweeted, his “feet were burning.”

Review: Darien Lake - May 28, 2011

Darien Lake Amusement Park, Darien Centre, NY
May 28, 2011
By Warren Bekker

The day I learned that the world needs more Neon Trees.

The sprint to the front of the stage was only just the beginning! In the days
before the Neon Trees appearance at Darien Lake Amusement Park near Buffalo, NY
it had rained… and rained… the first 30 feet of lawn was pure mud (covered
in-between sound checks by park staff with bales of hay.) After some mud-soaked
spills, the crowd was as glad to see the sun come out as their beloved
musicians.

Even if the sun had not appeared, there was plenty of shining on the stage
thanks to the dynamic performance by the Neon Trees.

The Neon Trees demonstrated that they have a rarely seen depth of musical skill
and talent. A full, but clean sound from guitar and bass; a drummer that not
only has mad skills, but a fantastic voice as well. The group has a good range
of sounds and styles that buck the trend away from a ‘formula sound’ trap that
several new groups seem to fall into.

The band reached out and connected with the audience both metaphorically and
literally as Tyler shocked the park’s security staff and thrilled the mud-soaked
fans as he crawled down from the stage and sang his way through the front row of
fans.

I have been to literally dozens and dozens of concerts by a wide variety of
musicians and styles of music and I can easily say that precious few of them put
on a show with as much heart - and Tyler Glenn’s personal brand of fun/crazy
energy. The chemistry, talent, and energy from the Neon Trees was very
infectious and brought a huge smile to the faces of all who were there and had
me asking my wife when they will be performing again near enough for us to go
see them again. Truly the music industry, and indeed the world, needs more Neon
Trees.

Review: Your Surrender Tour - Jacksonville, FL

Your Surrender Tour - Freebird Live in Jacksonville, Florida
by Shekinah Terry
I didn't care that alcohol kept being spilled on me I had to dance with them. I had to sing as loud as I could. I carefully inched closer into the crowed until there as no way possible that I could move and then Tyler asked us to dance with him and suddenly we were all one. We all jumped and moved with Tyler until we couldn't anymore. His voice, the melody, the crowed it all just morphed into one. We screamed at every question he asked and he laughed. We sang with every song he sang. We danced with every insane leg kick he gave us. We couldn't help ourselves.

B.O.M.B. Festival Blows Up Hartford

By the far the most impressive vocal performance of the festival, Neon Trees’ frontman Tyler Glenn blasted the stage in a sunflower-yellow leather jacket and trademark punk-rock haircut, leading the quartet in their pop-rooted rock anthems off their debut album, such as, “Animal” and “1983,” Glenn’s stage antics carrying the overall performance. He kicked off his shoes, climbed on amplifiers, wailed into the microphone and shouted to the crowd. “I want to take you to church!” He took off his jacket to reveal a black shirt slapped with a leopard-printed T on the back, confiding he sings about sex.

Neon Trees Energizes House of Blues

A headlining concert by a band with only one album could end up being a rip off, but not when that band is Neon Trees. The funky quartet made a big statement last night at the House of Blues.

There was no lack of energy on stage, or in the crowd, from the minute they opened with “Your Surrender.”

Neon Trees Light Up St. Andrews

When Neon Trees took the stage, they started off with instant energy, fueled by frontman Tyler Glenn’s captivating stage presence. Even the audience members that only knew the group’s hit single “Animal” were kept entertained as Glenn sang while dancing, lying on the stage and climbing up stacks of amps and hyped the crowd up like an old-time preacher, preaching the “gospel of music.” However, it wasn’t just Glenn that kept the crowd engaged. From drummer Elaine Bradley to  guitarist Chris Allen to bassist Branden Campbell, all members were firing on all cylinders.

Surrendering to Neon Trees

Surrendering to Neon Trees
By Tashia Taylor

With my friends and I being an avid concert-goers, we've noticed things. And one of them is that, for us, the more unsavory the weather, the better the show is that evening. The atmosphere at St. Andrew's Hall, while dreary and wet, was very promising. The ticket called for local band Rocky Loves Emily, Eastern Conference Champions, The Limousines, and headliners Neon Trees.
Our day started out with a four hour wait outside the venue in pouring rain. Luckily, I was able to not only have my friends for company, but was able to meet some of the most interesting fans of Neon Trees. Suffice to say, after talking with some of these people for just fifteen minutes; its was easy to see that the band gathers an eclectic following from many different backgrounds. This made for an interesting time and promised an interesting crowd later. At one point, Tyler Glenn, lead singer for Neon Trees, poked his head from the band's bus window and talked to the small group of us huddled under an awning, taking pictures of people, and meeting a young boy who hadn't met him before. A little while later, he came out from the bus and took pictures with the early birds and chatted more with the fans. A little later on, David Charles, an auxiliary member of Neon Trees and solo artist, visited, as well as Brandon Ellis from Rocky Loves Emily, who introduced himself and talked about his band's music. Just before doors opened, Elaine Bradley, drummer of Neon Trees, poked her head out of the bus to chat with fans before getting ready to head into the venue, promising an amazing show.
Once inside, my initial impression of the venue was positive. I'm a fan of the smaller, intimate venues and this was perfect for that. Merch was set up just as you walk on the floor, the stage was set up for Rocky Loves Emily, and people were settling in at the front of it. Neon Trees had been giving away meet and greets for before the show, I'd managed to get one, so I'd only caught one song of Rocky Loves Emily before being taken away. But my initial impression was, “Wow.” Even though I hadn't heard of them before, the crowd was very receptive to them and they sounded as tight as the stage looked for the six of them on the small platform.
Eastern Conference Champions
The meet and greet people were taken upstairs to an open room where the band was waiting. As no one had really given any instructions for what people should do, most of the winners huddled at the door, but I was able to get some of the girls who followed me in leave the safety of the pack and go to the band. The ice quickly broke when the others saw that myself, my friends, and the girls had been able to walk up to the band without a S.W.A.T. Team descending from the ceiling, most of these people not realizing how easily accessible and open the band is to fans. We were all able to mill about and talk with the band members easily, who were all open to taking photos, sign things, and just shoot the breeze. The time went by quickly, but lasted around twenty minutes or so before we had to say goodbye and were ushered out and down the stairs again.
When we got back to the floor, Rocky Loves Emily was done and they were finishing setting up for Eastern Conference Champions, or just ECC. The crowd was thick but we were able to cut through and get third row, about center stage, easily. ECC came on shortly and launched into their first song. The crowd seemed very receptive, but it took another song or two before the crowd warmed up to their brand of rock (similar to The National, if you get my drift), which was in a different vein than Rocky Loves Emily had been in. I highly enjoyed their high energy and that they seemed to mean every single note that they put out, as each one was filled with what seemed like passion. And what was all the more to enjoy, they looked like they wanted to be on stage, like they were having fun. So many bands think they're too cool to look like they're having fun doing their job, but ECC just went with it. During their last song, they closed with all three of them on drums, just beating on the heads and the cymbals like crazy with grins on their faces. Their stage presence and energy was fantastic and left me smiling and pumped up for the next act, The Limousines.
The Limousines
The Limousines consisted of two guys, Eric Victorino, who does vocals and works the crowd with his moves, and Giovanni Giusti, who works the synths, keys, and pretty much everything else. The beats and overall sound of The Limousines makes in nearly impossible for you not to dance. The music was just something fun and care free to dance to, and the crowd did just that. Victorino was very interactive with the crowd, reaching out to grab hands, talking, and shined a spotlight on the crowd at the rowdy ones.
Tyler Glenn
The wait time between the last notes of The Limousines and the into to Neon Trees was full of buzzing energy. The tour seemed to pick the perfect openers to get the crowd hyped up, as people were pushing closer, eager to get as close to the stage as possible. Looking around, I saw kids as young as maybe seven or eight, and adults looking to be in their forties, fifties. I'm always amazing at the range of fans that Neon Trees has and can bring together in one place.
The lights eventually went down, the intro track played, and the crowd seemed to take a collective breath and let out an excited cry at once. Neon Trees took the stage one at a time in their stylish glory and so it began with their newest single (and tour namesake), Your Surrender. The crowd sang along and danced with Tyler easily; feeding off the seemingly pure energy the band was giving off from just one song. Not only did the band do the typical songs from their album Habits, they also did the high spirited Phones from their Start a Fire EP. As the band came around to do their popular single Animal, the crowd went crazy and danced and sang along like it was their own song and the band was their audience, which was thrilling to be surrounded by. Tyler smiled big as his audience sang along to their song so easily, directing us all like we were his orchestra. Another surprising song from the Start a Fire EP that was played was Alarm, which the crowd ate up easily with its drum work and fun guitar from Elaine Bradley and Chris Allen, despite most not knowing the song well.
Chris Allen
The band closed with Love and Affection, leaving the stage quickly and the crowd still buzzing with energy. The members hadn't been offstage for more than a moment before the room began chanting, “Neon Trees! Neon Trees!” Hearing the crowd, the band came back out and did a three-song encore for St. Andrew's Hall. First, Tyler Glenn came out alone, wearing a pair of shades, singing Attraction solo as the others came back as well and picked up the song. Bassist Branden Campbell sang along during their encore songs, interacting with the crowd, singing with them as well as Glenn moved around the stage with his dance moves. They ended the show with the seemingly always appropriate Sins of My Youth, thanking the crowd.
Afterward, all the bands stuck around and were eager to talk with fans and take pictures, sign things such as CDs, set lists and more. Rocky Loves Emily members were at their merch table all night long greeting fans, snapping photos, selling the plethora of shirts, albums, and other goodies. As well as Melissa Dougherty, Joshua Ostrander, and Greg Lyons from ECC, who I found to be incredibly nice and a fun chat. The members of Neon Trees also sat at the end of the merch tables, talking to fans and gladly taking photos with smiling and clearly satisfied people.
Overall, the night was filled with nonstop fun and adrenaline as there was never a moment of boredom or wondering when a band would leave the stage. Each set was crowd pleasing and full of fun music. Headliners Neon Trees promised an amazing show and delivered, true to their word, as they always do. The band puts their all into every show, singing and dancing their way into concert-goers hearts easily. It's easy to see why the diehard fans love the quartet and why newbies find it so easy to fall fast and hard for them. A band that seems to not only make great music, love what they do, and love their fans is a band that deserves to be around for ages and Neon Trees will do just that. And just as our concert theory proved, the night, while filled with terrible weather, was incredible and unforgettable.

SunFest: Neon Trees

It’s apparent in the first few seconds of their show when lead vocalist Tyler Glenn struts onto stage in his lemon yellow jacket and black Mohawk that they are as much performers as they are musicians. They kicked off an hour long set with the first track of their album from last year, Sins of My Youth.

Neon Trees light up the stage again at Coachella 2011

" It was a thrilling set with the band appearing in 80s informed ostentatious regalia complete with feathers and chains. Tyler Glenn took off various pieces of his clothing and threw them out into the audience once he tired of them-to a point. He paused when someone yelled for him to take his shirt like he was thinking about how embarrassing that would be. He threw his shoes into the audience and people begged for socks. "

Fan Experience: @ Relentless Garage (Feb 21, 2011)

21/02/11, Relentless Garage, NEON TREES.

Okay, so, I was the first one inside Relentless Garage (minus the staff, obviously), then Mitchell & Tom followed close behind, we got middle barrier. I was so excited for how small the venue was and how close the stage was, I was literally squealing every few minutes and being all typically girly and all like ‘look how close they’ll be ohh wowowowow’. Then a few more people got in and I heard them saying about how they were looking forwards to seeing Neon Trees ‘cause they’d heard good things. And I was thinking ‘yeah, well you’re here to see Mona, but NT will blow your mind, they’re so much better, you’re in for a treat’.. and then a boy who was next to me yelled ‘BRANDEN!’ so I looked round, and Branden was just there! He’d walked over to see us, it was so good. He shook the boys’ hands then I was like HEY and shook his hand, and then he was like ‘are you my twitter friend?’ and I said yeah, but inside I was thinking ‘OHHMYHEKNOWSWHOIAM’.. anyway he was really nice and shook Mitchell and Tom’s hand too and said that if we wanted we could go meet them afterwards, we just had to go wait at their merch place in the bar area, and they’d be there about 10 minutes after their set. I’d said to him on twitter that we were leaving before Mona started and he was like ‘you have to go after us don’t you?’ or something like that and I was like ‘nah we don’t but we are anyway, we’re only here for you’ and I was thinking ‘woah, he actually read my tweet’ It was so cool. Anyway he had to go and get ready so we said bye then waited for them to come on stage.

It was about 25 minutes and they finally came on stage, I was literally like AAAHHH!! When the music stopped so we knew they were coming on and the guy next to me laughed, it was quite funny. Then when I saw them all walk on it was so amazing, like, you see these people in videos on the internet and in pictures, but seeing them in real life so close, is so special, especially when they’re people you really admire. Anyway they went straight into Sins Of My Youth, and I was totally dumb-struck, Sins is one of my favourites, totally overwhelmed. And I hadn’t drank anything so I was singing my heart out but my mouth was so so dry, it was horrible, but it didn’t really spoil anything. I was just looking at them all and thinking ‘woah.. I’m seeing Neon Trees, they’re actually there.. Wowow’ ...
